Dr. Qian Xun is a researcher in the Center of Electronic Energy Systems at Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT cooperated with Kiel University. She received her Ph.D. degree from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, Apr. 2022. Her research interests include fuel cell-based powertrains for automotive and shipping applications, hydrogen-based energy storage systems for microgrid applications. She is going to give a talk on Optimal Sizing and Energy Management of Energy Storage Systems for Microgrid Applications. The talk presents power architectures to integrate renewable energy resources and energy storage systems in microgrids for data center and residential community applications. An optimization framework is formulated to determine the optimal sizing and energy management. Due to the high efficiency of the battery, it is preferred to serve as the short-term energy buffer, while the high energy density of the hydrogen technology, it is preferred to serve as seasonal energy buffer to achieve the self-sufficiency.
